About us
In a rapidly changing world, where technological innovation drives progress, one critical aspect is often overlooked: the wealth of knowledge and experience that disappears when technicians retire. With the aging workforce accelerating and hundreds of seasoned professionals leaving their careers each year, this valuable resource often goes untapped. This happens even as the shortage of skilled technical personnel continues to grow. We considered that a waste and saw an opportunity to change it.
We are Jaap Snip and Ronald Hunslip, entrepreneurs and pioneers in utilizing proven expertise and experience, as well as sharing and applying globally available knowledge.
Over the past decade, we have specialized in reactivating and deploying (early) retired technicians. This was no easy task. Their passion was still there, but their ambition had often diminished. Moreover, they preferred to work only on a part-time basis, at times that suited them. However, the key to success lay in our personal and social approach. This allowed us to effectively align their preferences and availability with the requirements of a project.
What struck us most in this process was the modesty of these true masters. They do not seek the spotlight but prefer to let their actions speak for themselves. Only by asking the right questions were we able to uncover their vast and limitless expertise—knowledge that extends beyond their own field.
With years of experience, our experts have the ability to find the right solution in one go. This not only saves valuable time but also ensures smoother project execution. Their approach is pragmatic and results-driven, without any fuss or any egos getting in the way. This makes them well-respected and allows them to integrate seamlessly into new environments.
Additionally, they are masters at passing on knowledge. Their seemingly simple yet invaluable advice can give young technicians a strong start in their careers.
What they have learned over decades, they transfer to the next generation in a short period. They are role models without even realizing it, and that is precisely their strength.
The best part? These seasoned technicians have found the perfect balance between enjoying their retirement—such as spending time with family—and making valuable contributions to projects.
A key role within Smart Way Engineering
Within Smart Way Engineering, these retired engineers are part of our R&D Connect Team.
They are the architects of our projects, mapping out the big picture and providing the essential building blocks. Their work lays the foundation upon which our remote teams build. The result? An efficient process, high-quality outcome, and sustainable knowledge transfer.
